What is Reiki?
Reiki is a spiritual path. A way of life. A path to enlightenment. The healing aspect is only a small part of it. Today, it's really the only part of Reiki most people are aware of. People often view Reiki as an alternative/complement to mainstream medicine. Or it's viewed as a form of relaxation, kind of like massage. And it can be. But there's more to it than that. Dr. Usui (who is known as the founder of Reiki) actually didn't focus on the healing aspect of others. This came later with the teaching and works of Hayashi, one of the last people Usui attuned as a Reiki Master. (Hayashi is credited as the second most important person in the history of Reiki.) My belief is similar to Dr. Usui's: that Reiki was/is a spiritual path to enlightenment. It is a way to live your life, to heal yourself, and bring yourself into balance. This leads to a healthy, happy, and fulfilled life. Reiki is a journey. It doesn't happen overnight or in a weekend workshop. It happens over months, years, your entire life time. It may be little things. How you see or feel about something. Or it may be a big change in your life. Quitting your job for a more fulfilling and meaningful one, moving, leaving a relationship, friendships. You will realize what your true values and beliefs are in your life. Once you find these things, you'll be able to heal yourself and guide others in their journey to heal themselves.
