Interview with Kathy Crabbe
I recently got to do an interview with one of my mentors and my first spiritual teacher, Kathy Crabbe. Hope you enjoy!
When did you first started following your path of being an intuitive and an artist?
Art is in my blood, but I didn’t know it because I was adopted! I’ve always felt cut off from truly knowing who I am. When I discovered my birth family at age 27 this helped. I started to trust myself more and with the help of my extremely intuitive triple water sign husband who encouraged me to become a full time artist, I turned professional after getting married at age 27. I became a professional intuitive after I turned 40. I needed those extra years of living and testing out my intuitive skills to be able to truly trust and share those skills on a professional level so I could be of service.
What made you decide to make the Lefty Oracle card series?
I had shared the Leftys with sooo many people in writer’s groups, onstage in Hollywood, with Red Hat groups, at parties and individually, so I knew that they are truly magical and inspirational for all kinds of people. The Leftys wanted to be of service way beyond just being pretty (and quirky) pictures on the wall. They wanted to reach out and touch people in an interactive way. Since I had just started giving intuitive soul readings professionally it just madesense that I use an oracle deck of my own artwork. Art and life and writing and magic all came together and voila, the Lefty Oracle Deck was born!
Who inspires you the most in your work?
I draw great inspiration from my coven and from my Celtic Faerie spiritual mentor, Francesca De Grandis. My husband’s encouragement has also made all the difference in my life and my dear friends too.
You are now working on spirit animals, how did this project come about?
I was at my cottage in the 1000 Islands region of Ontario, Canada with a brand new Montreal made pad of lovely watercolor paper and I started to paint and draw with an ink nib pen and out came a forest woman and her cat. The series flowed from there and continues on that same paper which I adore and which also keeps me connected with my Canadian roots while I’m living in Southern California

What projects are planned for the future?
I just started a Crone Club on Patreon and on my Blog in which I share Crone Club Charms (channeled watercolors and words) to awaken the wise woman within. I myself am a Gen X Crone, the first of my generation to go through menopause. I feel guided to share these mixed media paintings along with my feelings about aging because I know how challenging it is to get older in a society that tends to discard aging women with their wrinkles and gray hair. Instead of hiding or destroying these marks of wisdom through plastic surgery, botox or ongoing hair dying I challenge both myself and other women to honour themselves and their bodies. I’ve got Aries Rising so I enjoy leading the way and causing a disturbance. Aging is natural and something to be proud of. Two of my favorite elderwoman heroes are Maude from the film, Harold and Maude and of course, Susun Weed, wise woman herbalist.
